Tarik Skubal and Freddy Peralta may be off the trade market after high-profile deals this weekend, but plenty of starting pitchers remain available for teams looking to bolster the rotation. While there are some injury concerns regarding two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani, if he's healthy he's been among the best pitchers in baseball when he's been on the mound this season. Justin Wrobleski was literally an All-Star this season and almost assuredly will be coming out of the bullpen in the playoffs. But for teams with aging, veteran cores, going for broke this season may still be the best bet, with uncertainty looming around the sport. A major labor battle is on the horizon, with MLB owners pushing for a salary cap, and the consequence could be a lost 2027 season.
