U.S. Soccer announced Monday it agreed to an extension with men's national team coach Mauricio Pochettino that will keep him in the role through the 2030 World Cup. "The passion we experienced from the fans throughout the World Cup only strengthened our belief in what is possible here. There were encouraging signs from the Pochettino-led USMNT to open the 2026 World Cup. The United States blitzed Paraguay 4-1 in its opener before beating Australia 2-0 to qualify for the knockout stages. Conventional wisdom is that having the same coach for two consecutive World Cup cycles can be risky.
