First held in 1930 in Canada under the name “British Empire Games,” the competition was renamed several times before becoming the Commonwealth Games in 1978. Held every four years, the next Commonwealth Games will be hosted in Ahmedabad, India in 2030. This year’s edition opened on July 23 at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, which was also notable for being the first Commonwealth Games opening ceremony held entirely indoors.
