A grief-stricken village gathered to bid an emotional farewell to a mother and son killed in the Payyanithottam landslide, as rain continued to lash the region.
Poonjar: The grief-stricken village of Payyanithottam bid a tearful farewell to Regina Johnny and her son, Josephine Johnny, who lost their lives in the devastating landslide that struck the area.
Their bodies were brought by ambulance to the courtyard of Holy Spirit School, Payyanithottam, at around 11.30 a.m. on Sunday, during a brief pause in the rain.
For the family, whose home was completely destroyed in the landslide, the school compound had become a temporary home in their darkest hours.
During the funeral service, friends, colleagues and well-wishers remembered the dreams and aspirations that Regina and Josephine had cherished.
