On the banks of the Danube near the town of Ryahovo in Bulgaria, the remains of an ancient mammoth have resurfaced.
The river, with water levels at record lows because of recent heatwaves, has revealed bones which, according to researchers at the Regional History Museum in Ruse, belong to a specimen of 'Mammuthus primigenius', commonly known as the woolly mammoth.
So far, researchers have identified and recovered a jawbone, tusks, a shoulder blade, ribs and other bone fragments, but much of the skeleton is probably still buried.

The discoveries are not the only consequence of the Danube running dry, though.
