A Japanese specialist hardware project named Floppy U-kun is preparing a USB-connected 5.25-inch floppy drive for Sharp X68000 emulation and restoration workflows. That unusually high figure reflects the use of refurbished original floppy-drive mechanisms and the limited market for newly integrated 5.25-inch hardware. The device can operate with physical X68000 software through the platform’s IOCS routines and supports disk-based booting. Performance is slower than an original internal X68000 drive. Its audience consists of preservationists, collectors, developers and X68000 enthusiasts who need direct interaction with original 5.25-inch disks.
