Microsoft has made memory optimization for PCs with 8GB of RAM or more one of its Windows development priorities for the remainder of 2026.
Pavan Davuluri, executive vice president of Windows and Devices at Microsoft, identified memory optimization as one of four areas receiving additional attention.
Microsoft is also working on faster initial setup, easier access to family controls, and more natural voice interaction across Windows applications.
Lower memory use is particularly relevant to affordable notebooks and compact computers equipped with 8GB of soldered RAM.
The company says it is taking advantage of a more efficient memory allocator to reduce overhead across applications and Windows components.
