Military junta forces in Ywangan Township, southern Shan State, have launched a campaign of arbitrary arrests, daily troop patrols, and violent village raids, resulting in the death of an unarmed civilian from severe beatings and widespread displacement. The heavy military presence has effectively paralyzed local livelihoods, leaving residents unable to tend to their farms and orchards. “Every time the soldiers arrive, they come with around 100 troops stationed inside the village,” a local woman from Nwarbangyi said. Junta forces arrested four residents, including women, from downtown Ywangan, while a married couple in Yaeu Village was detained for "questioning" and remained out of contact. The violence culminated on July 24 when junta forces conducted a large-scale raid on Kyaukhnget Village, arresting and beating several residents.
