UK and allied spy agencies say they have exposed Russian state-supported actors which have been targeting Western government and commercial organisations, including in the energy sector. A joint cybersecurity advisory titled Russian State-Supported Cyber Actors Conduct Phishing Campaign Targeting Users of Zimbra Collaboration Suite was published in July. The NCSC published a press release about the notice on 23 July and warned that “Russian state-supported cyber actors [had] targeted Western organisations with a malicious campaign which uses a zero-click exploit coined “beehive” (or “Ulej”) to steal emails”. “US organisations have been targeted in sectors including defence, government, education, energy, law enforcement, media, NGOs and technology.” Security minister Dan Jarvis said: “Today’s action shows we’re working hand-in-hand with our allies to expose Russian state-supported hackers targeting Western organisations.
