Nathan Owen called 999 to report that his Jaguar had ‘gone rogue’, was accelerating by itself, and that its brakes were not working, before police stopped him on the M62.
Owen was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court today, Monday, which heard that Jaguar Land Rover spent £50million to combat the extensive coverage that his lie had generated.
Following an investigation, the defendant was charged with dangerous driving and two counts of fraud by false representation.
Following the incident, Jaguar Land Rover launched an investigation, as well as Merseyside Police, and no fault with the vehicle could be found.
The whole incident resulted in the motorway being closed and substantial delays, and Owen caused a significant risk of harm to motorists and police officers involved.
