The sign from the Lake District National Park Authority (LDNP), states that camping beside Buttermere is trespassing and visitors should only use official campsites.
Camping is banned beside all lake shores in the national park.
It follows a statement by the LDNP, welcoming visitors to the park during its peak season and urging them to act respectfully.
"The Lake District is a unique landscape which is why we have action plans tailored to different areas.
Ms Hankin encourages visitors "to explore this inspiring scenery, connect with its communities and heritage and to help protect its habitat and wildlife."
