KABUL (Amu tv): Human Rights Watch said Afghanistan has descended into one of the world’s gravest human rights crises during nearly five years of Taliban rule, citing systematic repression of women and girls, attacks on media freedom, arbitrary detentions and a worsening humanitarian emergency. The organization said women and girls have borne the brunt of the Taliban’s policies. Human Rights Watch said Afghanistan’s humanitarian situation has continued to deteriorate as foreign aid has declined and economic conditions have worsened. It warned that many returnees—including women and girls, journalists, former government officials, religious minorities and LGBT Afghans—face heightened risks under Taliban rule. Human Rights Watch said renewed border fighting with Pakistan and attacks by the Islamic State group have also contributed to civilian casualties, compounding Afghanistan’s security challenges.
