After a beautiful Sunday, widespread rain moved through southern New England from the morning into the evening, with a few thunderstorms. Localized flash flooding is possible, especially in poor drainage areas and locations that are still saturated from last week's rainfall. Roadway flooding caused Merriam Avenue to be shut down at the Route 2 interchange in Leominster and Fitchburg for about an hour on Monday morning, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation said.
