Smooth Subdivision Roads Face A Cheaper MakeoverJuly 31, 2026NelsonResidents of Tasman’s new subdivisions might like their asphalted roads, but the looming $7 million replacement bill means they likely won’t be asphalted forever.
Tasman District Council’s transportation manager, Jamie McPherson, said developers were frequently opting to asphalt their subdivisions’ roads, during a Thursday workshop.
“These roads… provide a smooth, high-quality, attractive service.
The key problem to such a policy was that residents were likely to be reluctant to see their asphalted roads replaced with chipseal.
“Asphalt roads last quite well and are very popular.
