Two LSU research teams will join the U.S. Department of Energy’s Genesis Mission, a national project using artificial intelligence in nuclear research. Working with Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Brookhaven National Laboratory, LSU professors and graduate students will help tackle challenges faced by modern physicists. The research teams, led by LSU Department of Physics and Astronomy faculty members Jeffery Blackmon and Phillip Sprunger, were among 278 projects selected for funding nationwide. “It’s an amazing achievement from LSU, which means what we do, the research here, brings LSU to the national level.” As interim director of the Louisiana Light Source, Sprunger is tasked with managing and supporting LSU’s synchrotron.
