There are three vacancies in ward 4/1, which represents the west of the town, and two in ward 4/2, which represents the east side along the boundary of Prestongrange Road.
If the number of nominated candidates exceeds the five available places, a by-election will be held during Prestonpans Community Council's next public meeting at Prestonpans Town Hall on August 25.
The community council encourages anyone with an interest in improving Prestonpans to stand, highlighting that community councillors represent their neighbourhood, support local projects, respond to planning applications, and give residents a voice through finding community-led solutions on issues that help shape the future of the town.
The decision to hold a by-election was unanimously agreed at a recent meeting, after a co-opted member expressed an interest in being able to vote on decisions taken during meetings.
Community councillor Andrew Stevenson proposed that a by-election be held to fill the empty seats, with his proposal seconded by Emma Dodd, fellow community councillor.
