Crews from across Cumbria were called to the incident at Sinkfall Skip Hire and Recycling on Rakesmoor Lane just before 10pm on Friday, July 31. Crews discovered a large building fully engulfed in flames with contents including farm machinery and cardboard waste bales, as well as the office section of the premises. Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) confirmed that 10 fire engines and 60 crew members attended at the height of the incident. Residents in Barrow were advised to keep their windows closed throughout the incident to minimise smoke inhalation. This was the second time last week that such a warning was issued after a fire at Salthouse Mills on Monday, July 27.
