Barrow RNLI launched their inshore lifeboat following a request from HM Coastguard in Holyhead at 11.23pm on Sunday after reports of a lone sailor requiring assistance in the Walney Channel near Haws Point.
The yacht, a six-metre vessel, was carrying a single occupant who had become disoriented while navigating the channel.
Barrow RNLI launched the inshore lifeboat Raymond and Dorothy Billingham at 11.41pm with Jonny Long at the helm and a crew of three.
One of the lifeboat crew was transferred to the yacht to assist with lowering the sails and securing the towline.
The lifeboat returned to station at 12.20am and was prepared for future service by shore crew.
