Μake us preferred on GoogleSeveral areas of southern Kefalonia remained without electricity and running water for a second consecutive day after a major wildfire caused extensive damage to the island’s power distribution network.
The power outage has also disrupted the water supply because pumping stations depend on electricity.
According to reports, the Kefalonia Municipal Water and Sewerage Company (DEYAK) installed generators at Skala’s water facilities, but they reportedly failed to operate because they lacked fuel, leaving the area without water.
Greece’s electricity distribution network operator (HEDNO) later transported three large generators to Skala in an effort to meet the settlement’s increased electricity needs.
However, the generators proved insufficient, supplying only about 3% of the area’s power demand.
