Newton shot put and discus thrower Nick Milburn holds down the fifth spot on our countdown of the Top 10 sports moments from Newton High School during the 2025-2026 school year. Milburn earned two top-ten finishes in field events at the 2026 Boys State Track and Field Meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. On Friday, May 22, Milburn placed fourth in the Class 3A Shot Put with a top throw of 55 feet, 10.25 inches, earning five team points for Newton. Milburn qualified for the Boys State Track and Field Meet after winning both the Shot Put and Discus competitions at the May 14th state qualifying meet in Pella. His best throws at that event were 55 feet, 9.5 inches in the shot put and 152 feet, 10 inches in the discus.
