Iran is not currently engaged in direct negotiations with the United States and is instead holding discussions with Oman over a temporary navigation corridor through the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on Monday. Addressing a televised press conference, he explained that the proposed arrangement with Oman involves establishing a designated shipping route with separate inbound and outbound lanes to facilitate maritime traffic through the strategic waterway. However, Baghaei stressed that any understanding reached with Oman alone would not be enough to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. According to Baghaei, the overall situation would remain unchanged as long as what he described as ongoing US “aggression” continues. Baghaei further noted that Qatar has also been assisting the negotiation process whenever its support has been needed.
