Prior to amalgamation in 1998, Howe Island Township was its own municipality. Tax revenue from waterfront properties and agricultural land would provide the new Howe Island township the needed tax base, he wrote. “I believe Howe Island has the experience, judgment, and leadership necessary to successfully govern its own affairs should that ever become the community’s decision.”
