Janelle Bynum to resign because she supported the Laken Riley act to crack down on illegal immigration by suspected criminals and endorsed capitalism over socialism, according to Willamette Week. Bynum, 51, a first-term Democrat who seeking re-election in November, in Oregon’s closely contested 5th Congressional District. After defeating incumbent U.S. Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer in 2024, She faces Republican Patti Adair, who served two terms as a Deschutes County commissioner. This Bynum rebellion is similar to the recent victories of Democrat Socialist of America candidates who defeated established Democrat elected officials in the May 2026 Primary. Rep. Lesly Muñoz, D-Woodburn, defeated incumbent Janeen Sollman, D-Hillsboro (#15 district) in her state senate seat.
