Brendan Burke, prosecuting, said Young was driving a Peugeot 308 at 10am on February 4 when police stopped him near Carlisle because of the “manner of his driving.” The cash was found inside various bags which had been stuffed into a rucksack behind the front passenger seat, the court heard. Young refused to answer police questions and declined to give police his mobile phone's PIN number to allow it to be analysed. A Proceeds of Crime hearing will be held next year to determine what criminal profit the defendant may have achieved, and what assets can be seized. The judge set the date for a Proceeds of Crime hearing as February 12, 2027.
