Coniston Fire Station was alerted to the report of a fire at 1.03pm on Saturday, August 1. The incident was said to have happened in the open near Windermere, with a spokesperson from the station reassuring residents that the fire was stopped before it could start. "Although [there was] no fire, the ground under the BBQ had begun to singe," they explained. The station used what was their sixth callout of the week to remind residents and visitors to follow advice to prevent wildfires in the current 'challenging conditions'. People are reminded to not litter or drop cigarettes, build campfires and barbecues out in the open, conduct controlled burns, or start deliberate fires.
