Amber health alert issued for South East as hot weather makes rise in deaths 'likely'

The alert from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) came into effect at 9am on Monday morning, August 3, and is set to run until 9am on Wednesday, August 5.
These impacts include a potential "rise in deaths", with those aged 65 and over or with health conditions most at risk.
The hot weather means that temperatures inside care settings like hospitals and care homes could "exceed the recommended threshold".
UKHSA warned the heat could also make it difficult to manage medicines, impact staffing levels through transport disruption, and potentially lead to demand for power exceeding capacity.
The hot temperature could also increase the number of water-related incidents, such as cold-water shock and drowning.
