The 53rd Annual White Marlin Open begins on Monday. Anglers have been in arriving in Ocean City in preparation for the ‘worlds largest billfishing tournament.’ Last year’s tournament saw 282 boats and over 3000 contestants – and over $7.24-million in prize money was awarded – with the top prize – of $3.9-million for a 72-pound white marlin. Tournament officials report 334 boats will be competing for an estimated $9.9 million in prize money during this year’s six-day tournament beginning on Monday. Anglers will fish 3 of those six days and there are several new divisions this year – including a non-sonar division and a big fish daily added entry level to benefit local charities.
