Scientists have long known that ageing, obesity, diabetes, and some neurological conditions increase the risk of overactive bladder. This device measured movement patterns throughout the day and night, allowing researchers to study daily activity rhythms and sleep quality. People who slept longer and spent a greater proportion of time asleep while in bed were less likely to have overactive bladder. This study provides valuable evidence linking sleep health, daily body rhythms, and overactive bladder in a large population. Clinical trials will now be needed to determine whether improving circadian rhythm and sleep can directly reduce overactive bladder symptoms.
