New Delhi, Aug 3: UPI users may soon have to give a final confirmation before certain payments are processed, as major banks have proposed an additional confirmation prompt for peer-to-peer (P2P) transactions showing unusual or out-of-pattern behaviour. The proposal has been submitted to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as part of feedback on measures to tackle rising digital payment fraud. Under the proposed system, users would be asked to confirm a payment when a transaction displays characteristics that could indicate fraudulent activity. The RBI had sought suggestions from banks on measures including delayed credit of funds as part of its efforts to strengthen safeguards against digital payment fraud. The proposals are currently under consideration and do not amount to a final change in UPI payment rules.
