AI music platform Suno has lost a landmark copyright case in Germany over the company's AI training practices. GEMA represents around 95,000 rightsholders in Germany and over two million worldwide. At a hearing in March, GEMA provided evidence that AI-generated music created using Suno closely matched multiple copyrighted compositions in melody, harmony and rhythm. In recent years, Suno has faced several lawsuits over the use of copyrighted materials to train its AI, with groups representing indie musicians filing two lawsuits and Danish rights organisation Koda filing a third. In July, it was found that Suno had scraped song data from YouTube, Deezer and Genius.
