A crooked Dundee barman hijacked the bank account of his housebound father to steal £50,000 of his cash. Dewar posed as his father – who medically retired almost 20 years ago – and established online banking with Bank of Scotland. Dundee Sheriff Court was told how Dewar’s father was left “virtually housebound” after suffering a stroke and relies on his brother, who now acts as power of attorney. The victim had no access to online banking and had a large pension saved in another account. “During the call, he is heard to be stating he was having issues with online banking and this was the reason for the call and to complete the transaction.
