Aug 03, 2026Dwayne PagePeople of faith from the community concerned about the well being and safety of students and all those who work in and for the school district gathered for a time of prayer Sunday at the DCHS gymnasium. The observance is not school sponsored but it is an annual event held at a school on a Sunday afternoon prior to the official start of school where those who believe in the power of prayer meet for a common purpose of asking God’s hand of protection for a safe year. Isaac Gray, minister at the Smithville Cumberland Presbyterian Church, served as moderator of the Sunday observance. Quoting from scripture to begin, Gray said “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” We should follow the Lord and make wise decisions for the good of our children and our school system,” said Gray.
