NYPD reports record-low shootings and murders through July 2026NEW YORK (WABC) -- New York City recorded the fewest shootings, shooting victims and murders in recorded history during both July and the first seven months of 2026, according to figures released by the NYPD. Through July, the city recorded 381 shooting incidents, 462 shooting victims and 149 murders, all record lows for the period. In July alone, there were 59 shooting incidents, 81 shooting victims and 21 murders, also the lowest totals ever recorded for the month. The department said overall major crime fell 12.7% in July compared with the same month last year, with declines in all seven major crime categories and across every borough. In public housing developments, the NYPD reported record lows for murders, shootings, shooting victims and robberies during the first seven months of the year.
