SANEF Calls for Clarity on Media24 “new model” newsroom and welcomes resolution of Eastern Cape newspaper salary crisis

SANEF | Protecting Media Freedom
Decisions affecting its newsrooms inevitably have implications for media plurality, editorial independence, newsroom diversity, and the future of public-interest journalism.
SANEF remains concerned about the long-term sustainability of these publications and the security of editorial staff following the ownership changes that have taken place.
We therefore urge the new owners to demonstrate a clear commitment to editorial independence, sustainable business practices, fair labour relations, and investment in quality journalism.
EndsNote to Editors:The South African National Editors’ Forum (SANEF) is a non-profit organisation whose members are editors, senior journalists, and journalism trainers from all areas of South African media.
We are committed to championing South Africa’s hard-won freedom of expression and promoting quality, ethics, and diversity in the South African media.
