Construction sites face renewed heat alert

Construction firms have been urged to review working practices as temperatures are forecast to rise again above 30°C in parts of England.
Major infrastructure projects including High Speed 2 and Hinkley Point C have already changed their approach to hot weather following periods of intense heat this summer.
Builders’ merchant Travis Perkins has also issued advice to contractors on protecting workers and managing materials and equipment during periods of extreme heat.
Lauren Hickling, health, safety and environment director at Travis Perkins, said: “Hot weather is no longer something construction sites can afford to treat as a minor inconvenience.
“The businesses handling extreme heat most effectively are the ones planning before temperatures rise,” she said.
