The Fight Over the CPSCA battle over control of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission has been running since 2025, and it matters to anyone who rides. The CPSC is the independent federal agency Congress created in 1972 to handle product safety for goods sold to the public, and its work includes recalls on off-road powersports machines. In May of 2025, three sitting commissioners, all Democrats, were told they had been fired. The Consumer Product Safety Act requires at least three commissioners to form a quorum and conduct official business, so filling the empty seats was always a matter of when rather than if. Karen Sessions was put forward in February 2026, and current CPSC Executive Director Brien Lorenze followed in June 2026.
