Recent rainfall over the summer has put a major dent in the drought we’ve been experiencing over the past year, and we are now out of drought status. Last Thursday, the U.S. Drought Monitor released the drought status for Northeast Georgia. As of Friday, the drought status for Franklin and most of Northeast Georgia has dropped from D2 Severe Drought down to D0 Abnormally Dry. And the report indicates we are not expected to enter any higher drought status in the coming weeks. North Georgia had been in a drought status since last September, and by this past May was in the highest level drought status D4, Exceptional Drought.
