Mr Bown, who has more than 35 years of senior healthcare leadership experience and has served as a chief executive within the NHS for 25 years, will take up the role on Monday, August 3. He succeeds chief executive Suzanne Rankin, who announced earlier this year that she will be leaving Cardiff and Vale UHB to become chief executive officer at Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Mr Bown said he was 'delighted' to be joining Cardiff and Vale UHB and is looking forward to listening to colleagues, understanding their experiences and working together on the opportunities and challenges ahead. Health board chair Kirsty Williams said his wealth of leadership experience and collaborative approach would be 'invaluable' as the organisation continues its improvement journey. Recruitment for a permanent chief executive officer will now be progressed by the chair and independent members of the board, with the involvement of the chief executive of NHS Wales.
