School pupils’ gig tops £4,000 for charities

Pupils from Durlston School came together for a gig to share their talents with an appreciative crowd, raising more than £4,000 for charity.
The Barton music event included acts from each year group, individuals, a community choir, staff and music scholars.
Some of the performers in Durlston's School's Big Gig for charityThe entertainment ranged from high energy routines to moving vocal performances as well as instrumental pieces performed by bands and ensembles at Durlston, including samba, recorders and orchestra.
The event was the result of months of planning by the pupil ‘crew’, taking a lead in aspects such as advertising, scheduling, sound and merchandising.
Throughout the event pupils set up charity stalls offering games, raffles and homemade trinkets, all helping to raise £4,153 for the four chosen charities: Alopecia UK, Amelia’s Rainbow, WWF, Southampton Hospitals Charity.
