As reported, residents in Brockenhurst were outraged when Forestry England (FE) revealed it planned to remove the beloved Martins Road bridge in Brockenhurst amid claims it was unsafe, and repairs would cost around £45,000. In January it was revealed “positive discussions” were had between Forestry England, Brockenhurst Parish Council and Brockenhurst Community Action Group on the bridge’;s future. Now Brockenhurst Parish Council has been granted a lease for the bridge, which will reopen after it has been refurbished to a safe standard. Chair of Brockenhurst Parish Council, Cllr Russell Horne said: “Forestry England and Brockenhurst Parish Council have agreed a licence for the reopening of the Martins Road footbridge as a local community project funded by public donations. Ken Crompton of the Brockenhurst Community Action Group said members were “really pleased” it had been saved.
