A Washington art teacher has recently been awarded for her efforts. Erin Almelien was named the Iowa Middle Level Art Educator of the Year. Almelien is the Washington Middle School art teacher. She is the chair of Youth Art Month currently. Last year she received the 2024 YAM Special Recognition Award from the Council of Art Education and in 2014 was presented the AEI Outstanding Secondary Level Educator Award.
