Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi has expressed sorrow over the death of Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, the Sardauna of Sokoto, describing his passing as a significant loss to the nation. In a condolence message shared on Monday, Obi paid tribute to the late statesman, who served Nigeria in several capacities, including as Minister of Finance and diplomat. “I am saddened by the passing of Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, the Sardauna of Sokoto, former Minister of Finance, and diplomat who served Nigeria in various capacities,” Obi said. His contributions to the nation and the Sokoto Sultanate will remain part of his legacy,” he added. Obi also extended his condolences to the government and people of Sokoto State, the Sultanate, and the bereaved family.
