THE Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) said it signed a memorandum of agreement with Mitsui & Co. (Asia Pacific) Pte. Ltd. to test the use of nanotechnology in coconut farming. The partnership calls for two years of field trials to determine if nanotechnology can help increase coconut yields and improve the health of coconut trees. Mitsui will provide its proprietary nano-formulated nutrient technology, while the PCA will identify trial sites and provide technical support. “Investments in innovation such as this will ensure that our biggest agricultural export remains globally competitive while supporting the President’s vision of a modern and sustainable agriculture sector,” Mr. Laurel said.
