PETALING JAYA : The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) has backed the Malaysian Weightlifting Federation’s call for an annual RM1 million allocation from the youth and sports ministry following the sport’s historic success at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Malaysia’s weightlifting team won seven medals at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games: five gold, one silver and one bronze. The Malaysian Weightlifting Federation also received the Trafalgar Trophy as the overall best-performing men’s weightlifting team. Norza said the council would continue supporting the sport through all channels, including leveraging international grants under the Olympic Solidarity Programme, tapping developmental resources provided by the Olympic Council of Asia, and extending direct assistance through the OCM Trust Fund.
