Federal territories minister Hannah Yeoh said that more than 400 green spaces in Kuala Lumpur had been gazetted so far. Yeoh said that despite questions over why traders continue to operate on gazetted green spaces, completing the gazettement of the remaining areas is a higher priority than evicting traders. She described the quandary of gazetting green spaces and evicting traders as a “chicken-and-egg” situation. Yeoh said more than 400 green spaces in Kuala Lumpur had been gazetted so far, with task forces set up to speed up the process for the remaining green spaces and flood retention ponds. “Because there was so little environmental protection pushback, we are way past the middle ground in terms of protecting our remaining green lungs.
