Myanmar’s former leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been detained since 2021, recently met with a representative from the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Suu Kyi, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has been serving a 27-year prison sentence following conviction on multiple charges, which her supporters argue are politically motivated.
Photos released by the government show Suu Kyi dressed in traditional Burmese attire, meeting with Arnaud de Baecque of the ICRC in a modest, wood-paneled room with minimal furnishings.
Following a military-led election in April, which resulted in the continuation of Myanmar’s military control and the presidency of Min Aung Hlaing, Suu Kyi was moved to house arrest.
Last December, Myanmar’s ruling junta claimed Suu Kyi was in good health.
