European energy giants Eni and TotalEnergies, 50-50 partners in the Cronos Block 6 gas field development offshore of Cyprus, announced a final investment decision last month. Operator Eni will make use of its existing infrastructure offshore Egypt to expedite development and move the gas to market. The companies are also joint partners in three other Cyprus gas field blocks. Neither project partner disclosed names of contractors, but Cyprus energy ministry source suggested that the companies carried out most of the pre-FEED and FEED work themselves. A final investment decision for the Aphrodite gas field near the Cyprus maritime border with Israel, is expected to announced by the end of the year.
