A new Housing & Residential Life policy is changing what student employees can do while working at residence hall front desks. Students working overnight hours will continue to be allowed to complete homework, though the policy also states that computers, phones and tablets are not allowed for use at any time. According to senior director for Housing & Residential Life Susan Stubblefield, the department recently updated operating procedures for office assistants working information desks across residential halls. “The whole reason I wanted to work this job was because of how convenient it was to be able to work on homework while working,” the office assistant said. As the fall semester begins, student workers say the upcoming semester will show how the new expectations affect both the job and the students who work it.
