The attorneys general of New Jersey and New York are suing to block the Trump administration from implementing a new rule that they say will undermine the Affordable Care Act and make it harder for Americans to obtain or keep health insurance.
If these additional changes aren’t stopped, the situation will only get worse,” New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport said in a statement.
Now, instead of lowering health insurance costs, the Trump Administration is reducing coverage and raising costs.”
Nearly 70,000 New Jersey residents dropped their health insurance coverage earlier this year, according to Davenport’s office, after the Trump administration and Congressional Republicans failed to extend tax credits for premiums on health insurance plans purchased through ACA marketplaces.
As of mid-March, roughly 38,000 New Yorkers had dropped health insurance they previously had through that state’s marketplace, according to the state.
