Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan, who presided over the event, said educational institutions have a vital role in creating awareness about substance abuse and empowering young people to make responsible choices.
She lauded the Department of Students' Welfare for extending awareness programmes beyond the university campus through outreach initiatives in colleges and communities.
Prof. Khan expressed confidence that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for a drug-free India would inspire youth to take collective responsibility in combating addiction.
The participants also joined the Prime Minister's live virtual address, in which he described the anti-drug campaign as a people's movement and called upon youth to lead the fight against addiction with the support of families, educational institutions and society.
According to the university, the nationwide campaign was organised at more than 10,000 locations across the country, with over one crore youth participating by taking the anti-drug pledge through the MY Bharat platform.
